With the Royal Norfolk Show just around the corner, many local businesses are getting ready to stand out. Whether you’re exhibiting or attending, the show is a brilliant opportunity to raise your profile, meet your audience face-to-face, and showcase what makes your brand tick.
We spoke to Charlie Unsworth at John E Wright & Co, long-time partners in print for Norfolk’s biggest businesses, to get their take on how to make the most of your show presence – with practical tips that can work for every size of stand and budget.
The Royal Norfolk Show is more than just a date in the diary – it’s a celebration of business, community, and connection across East Anglia. “We’ve printed everything from flags and banners to full vinyl trailer wraps and large back walls,” says Charlie. “It’s such a great place for businesses to connect with people who return year after year – and standing out in the crowd really matters.”
What kinds of stands engage best?
“There are so many signage options – from custom builds to roller banners. It’s all about making the most of your space and inviting people in. Don’t be afraid to fill your stand out to the front – visitors are often shy to step onto a stand, so catch their eye early.”
“The Gresham stand (shown below) was printed on our Direct to substrate printer and the students at Gresham filled with foliage and decorated. Following the success of this stand we received so many stand enquiries and orders.”
Common pitfalls to avoid?
“Leaving everything to the last minute! It’s surprisingly common for people to check their exhibition kit a week before and realise it’s out of date, damaged, or off-brand. That leads to panic. Start now, review your materials, and update where needed.”
What do people often underestimate?
“The power of interactivity. A competition, a sample, or a giveaway creates a reason to stop – and that’s often all you need to start a conversation.”
What trends are you seeing?
"We’re seeing more clients choose PVC-free banners.100% recycled cardboard structures, and materials that can be reused again and again.”
On a limited budget – what should be the priority?
“Focus on bold, visible branding. A well-designed roller banner or high-quality backdrop is a smart first investment – and did you know there’s a waterproof outdoor roller banner that can be pegged into the ground?”
What formats attract the most interest?
“Printed giveaways people can take home, roller banners with strong visuals, and anything interactive. Physical brochures still work well if they’re nicely designed and aligned with your brand.”
When should planning start?
“Now. Planning ahead is the difference between stress and success. The most impressive stands are the ones that were thought through early.”
Charlie shares: “We’ve printed stands that have gone on to win Best in Show – and it’s all about the prep. Those clients had a clear vision, planned early, and worked with us to bring it all together. Seeing those brands shine is why we love what we do.”
